The Free Republic of Wendland (German: Republik Freies Wendland) was a short-lived micronation in Gorbelen, Germany. It was created on 3 May 1980, as a focus of protest against the establishment of a nuclear waste dump in the area. Wendland came to an end on 4 June 1980, when German police broke up the protesters' camp and evicted its inhabitants.
