The Holy Empire of Réunion (Portuguese: Sacro Império de Reunião) is a micronation created on 28 August 1997 by Claudio André de Castro-Bourbon (born 5 May 1979), a real estate executive who resides in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
For the most part Réunion's activities are conducted along the lines of an online nation-state simulation, and it can be characterised as a sophisticated exercise in social networking thematically centred around a constructed national identity.
In addition to maintaining ongoing online interactions, Réunion has conducted annual face-to-face social gatherings for its Brazilian members since 2002. These events have taken place in Rio de Janeiro, and have typically attracted around a dozen attendees.
In 2008 Claudio de Castro-Bourbon purchased a former warehouse in the historic Rio waterfront district of Gamboa. Since that time the building has served as Réunion's physical headquarters.
