The Kingdom of Pictland is a micronation created in 2008 by Darrell Lee Pentland (born 5 March 1968), a native of Ketchikan, Alaska.
Pentland - who uses the alliterative pseudonym Derile Pentland - purports to be the chief of the Scottish Pentland Clan, and - as King Derile II - to also be the legitimate present-day successor to the Pictish monarchy. The latter has been extinct - along with a culturally distinct Pictish people - since the 11th Century CE.
Pentland has been described as a "charlatan" for misrepresenting himself as Pentland clan chief; in reality there is no such clan.
