The Nation of Yan (also sometimes referred to as the Nation of Why a Nation, or Y A Nation) is a micronation created in 2005 by Yan Pagh, a resident of Copenhagen, Denmark. It is based upon Yanian Empire, a defunct online role-playing game created by Pagh in 2000.
Pagh - who styles himself "His Holy Highness Yan I, Emperor of Yan" - is known for contributing largely incomprensible posts [1] [2] [3] [4], often embracing Islamophobic, misogynistic and anti-drugs themes - to the micronations.eu and Open Micronational discussion forums.
On a wiki entry authored by him in February 2009,[5] Pagh claimed to be a descendant of "some of the most eminent families in Europe", and that "liberalism has stolen all [my] family properties".[6]
As at February 2010 the Nation of Yan is known to have three members, who also constitute its "National Council": Daniela Baunsgaard, Heta Mikkonen and Pagh. Of the former two, nothing is known save their names.
The only evidence of the Nation of Yan's existence outside the internet are a coin, minted in 2008 by Jorge Fernandez Vidal,[7] and a plain white flag, which has been exhibited at the États: faites-le vous-même / States: grow your own exhibition in Paris, in 2007, and at the Utopics XI Swiss Sculpture Expo, in Biel, Switzerland, in 2009.
